SESSIONS
The Lindgren Summer Camp
operates Monday through Thursday for 8 weeks. Campers may be enrolled
for the entire 8-week session or the first or second 4 weeks and for a
full or half day. The full day runs from 9:30 to 3:00. The morning
session is from 9:30 to 12:30. Before-camp care is available starting at
8:00 and after-camp care until 5:30.
THE SETTING
Our summer camp operates primarily outdoors. The three and a half acres
is transformed into an inviting multi-activity day camp. Tents, cabins
and pavilions house the art, ceramics, woodworking, stitchery, games and
nature centers. The school classrooms serve as changing rooms for
swimming and provide indoor spaces for rainy days. Sports fields,
swimming pools and the water spray park are highlights of our summer
program.

THE CHILDREN
The camp is for children
aged three to nine. Three year olds have their own separate area (the
Hill camp) and their own staff of counselors. Four year olds are
accompanied by their own counselors to allow them to participate easily
in the many activities of the main camp.
THE CAMP DAY
The Lindgren Summer Camp
is unique because it offers an unstructured program. The children are
free to choose any of the well-supervised activities and their own
companionship during the day. Each child is assigned to a troop with an
experienced counselor who will act as a resource person and be with the
children during their lunch. Children check in with their counselor
when they arrive. Swim lessons and water orientation are provided by
our Red Cross certified lifeguards for four to nine year olds. Swim
lessons are scheduled in small groups during the morning. The pool is
open for free swim in the afternoon.
RAINY DAY
In the event of rain, we
utilize our school classrooms as well as outdoor shelters. All the
usual activities continue, except swimming and field sports. The three
and four year olds move into classrooms while the older children can go
between activities, all of which are covered.
THE STAFF
The camp is well staffed with a counselor-to-camper ratio of 1 to 5. A
head teacher supervises each of the activity areas. Most staff members
are veteran teachers with specialized areas of expertise. Our
lifeguards are certified by the Red Cross and we have a full time nurse
on staff.

ACTIVITIES
The activities your
child can choose from to spend his day include:
Nature and Animals-
Daily explorations at the adjacent Closter Nature Center conducted by
our naturalist, hikes, stream walking, lunch hikes, caring for fish,
amphibians, reptiles and resident farm animals. We occasionally have
rabbit weddings and bullfrog races.
Swimming-Water
orientation for beginners, swim lessons in the mornings earning various
levels of Red Cross certificates, free swim in the afternoons and all
day on Thursdays.
Recreation-Sandpit
digging with water, bike trail, swings, slides, climbers, games, drama,
camp song-a-longs.
Arts and crafts-Drawing,
printmaking, ceramics, plaster casting, papier-mâché, creative
stitchery, jewelry, painting, batik, collage, woodworking and
inventions.
Sports-Volleyball,
soccer, kickball, basketball, relay races, and T-ball.
Once each four week
session we have an evening campout for seven through nine year olds,
which includes boating at the Nature Center, barbeque, evening swim, our
own ice cream parlor and stories around the bonfire.

School van transportation
is available within a reasonable distance from the school. This service
is offered at cost and there are a limited number of seats.
